Master of Ceremony: Dr Lisa Belisle, Love Maine Radio and Maine Magazine.
Dr. Lisa Belisle is a doctor, writer, and mother of three, who lives on an island off the coast of Maine. As the wellness editor for Maine magazine and host of Love Maine Radio. She earned an undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College, a Doctor of Medicine from University of Vermont College of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health from Medical College of Wisconsin. Lisa operated her own family medical practice for six years before starting Aerie River, a practice devoted to prevention and wellness that employs an integrative approach to medicine that includes and traditional and non-traditional therapies.
She is a medical advisor for Raising Readers, MaineHealth Learning Resource Centers, and Mainehealth Employees Works on Wellness (WOW) Program. Lisa writes regularly for Parent & Family and The Maine Switch as well as maintaining being the hosts of Love Maine Radio.
Dr Belisle will be the host of our symposium throughout the day, and will moderate the panel with renown athletes, discussing the use of alternative practices in their athletic performance.

Dr Craig D. Schneider, Director of Integrative Medicine Department of Family Medicine at Maine Medical Center.
Dr. Craig Schneider is the current Director of the Integrative Medicine Department of Family Medicine at Maine Medical Center. After completing his medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Schneider went on to complete his Internship and Residency at Maine Medical Center, and a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice, and specializes in Alternative/Integrative Family Medicine.
9:20am. Athletic performance and medicine, the new deal
Dr. Heather Gillespie is a Primary Care Sports Medicine physician in Portland, Maine. She received her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, served as a varsity team physician at the University of California Los Angeles for eight years and is currently working with Maine Medical Partners – Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Committed to providing high quality sports medicine care to patients of all ages in her clinical practice, Dr. Gillespie also serves as the head team physician for the Maine Red Claws. Dr. Gillespie will explore the approach of Western Medicine in Athletic practice and share her views on an integrative approach to the field.

Dr. Diane Hayden has spent over 20 years in the health and wellness industries as an Assistant Professor at Central CT State University, St. Joseph’s College, New York Chiropractic College and Manchester Community College. She led the Education Division of Designs for Health, a physician only line of nutritional supplements. She is a published author in numerous peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and the Journal of Gerontology. Dr. Hayden travels nationally to speak and present spiritual and personal development workshops. Dr. Diane is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a BS in Marketing, and earned her PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Maryland. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, running, and traveling.

10:15-11:00. The Homeopathic Approach to Sports Injury Prevention and Treatment
Nancy Frederick, R.S. Hom.(NA), CCH, Director and Founder of Baylight Homeopathy Courses, is a registered member of the North American Society of Homeopaths, founding member of the Maine Association of Homeopaths and has been certified by the board of the Council for Homeopathic Certification. She is a diplomate in Advanced Clinical Homeopathy, and in addition to more than 15 years of study with Louis Klein, F.S. Hom., Nancy has studied formally with Master Homeopaths Vega Rozenberg, Jan Scholten, Massimo Mangialavori, and Jeremy Sherr. Nancy has taught homeopathy throughout New England and is a frequent and enthusiastic lecturer on the subject. She is currently involved in promoting homeopathy, through a number of television and radio spots, as a resource for children on the autism spectrum, for sufferers of Lyme disease, and those afflicted with Alzheimers and other degenerative conditions.
Nancy’s enthusiasm for homeopathy is evident in her teaching, as she imbues each student with an imperative for an open heart, beginner’s mind and a discerning curiosity for the workings of the natural world.
Dr. Kotzur received 4-years post-doctoral training in homeopathy, a safe and effective system of natural medicine.
She is the author of The Vitality Prescription: 100+ New Habits to Transcend Stress and Shine Brighter.
She treats patients of all ages for conditions including fatigue, insomnia, thyroid problems, hormone imbalance, poor immunity, menopause, blood pressure, autoimmunity, infectious diseases and more. Using a non-judgmental and flexible approach, Dr. Kotzur prescribes simple diet and lifestyle changes, supplements, herbs, and homeopathic remedies. She uses conventional lab work, as well as food sensitivity testing, in her assessment.
She has served on the faculty at the University of Southern Maine’s School of Nursing, where she developed and taught Naturopathic Medicine curriculum. She is a member of the faulty at Baylight Center for Homeopathy in Portland, ME, she is an Advisory Board Member for the Center for Wellness Leadership and is the Past President of the Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors.

11:15.Integrating Chinese Medicine in Sports Injury
Daniel Katz combines the ancient art of acupuncture and herbal medicine with the contemporary modalities and manual techniques of physical therapy.
Daniel received clinical training and a Masters of Science of Oriental Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College. He has many years of experience practicing in hospitals and private clinics. Daniel has worked in several unique settings, including the Immune Enhancement Program at the Institute for Traditional Medicine, which is nationally known for its work with cancer, autoimmune and neurological disorders. He has also worked as a mentor in the Maine Medical Center Integrative Medicine Department.
11:45.Osteopathy, An Integrative Science
Tom Gilson, DO. began his study of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995 at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine (UNECOM.) Post graduate honors included The Sewall Scholarship, awarded by a committee of didactic professors and medical students, and The Jim Jealous award for excellence in manipulation, awarded by the clinical faculty. Dr. Gilson completed a rotating internship in medicine at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester Massachusetts, and completed a residency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM.) He has been practicing in the Portland area since 2002. He is board certified in Osteopathic Manual Medicine and has consulting privileges at Mercy Hospital. In addition to his full time practice he is involved in teaching osteopathic skills, principles and philosophy to both medical students and physicians. He is a clinical professor of osteopathic manual medicine for UNECOM, MSUCOM, and Iowa COM. He volunteers at the Portland Osteopathic Children’s Clinic. He lives in Topsham ME with his wife and two children.

Julia Clukey, Olympian and National Luge Champion
After training for 12 years, Julia Clukey realized her dream and was accepted on to the United States Olympic Luge Team. In 2012 she was the national luge champion. She has now refocused her perseverance and motivation to help young girls in the state of Maine achieve their own dreams. Clukey has reached 19,000 students across the state and talks about setting goals and making good decisions. Her work has earned a Golden Arrow Award by the Maine Public Relations Council.
David William Cowens (born October 25, 1948 is an American retired professional basketball player and NBA head coach. At 6’9″, he played the center and occasionally the power forward position. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. Most recently he served as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons, and then as a special assistant to Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars, prior to Dumars’ regime being replaced by that of Stan Van Gundy.
Roberto Forleo was born in Bari, Italy and trained at Scuola di Balletto Classico Cosi-Stafanescu (Reggio Emilia-Italy) and with Ecole Atelier Rudra Béjart Lausanne (Switzerland) where he studied with Azari Plisetzki, Sulamith Messerer, Suzanne Farrell, David Howard and Colette Milner.
Roberto is a graduate of the Centre National de la Danse, Pantin-Paris (France) as a certified Ballet Teacher.
He has also performed with Grupo Corpo (Brazil), Bejart Ballet Lausanne (Switzerland), Rambert Dance Company (London-UK), Ballet Biarritiz (France), Cie Marie-Laure Agrapart (Paris-France), La-Parenthese Christophe Garcia (Marseille-France), Les Ballets Grandiva (Japan) and Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (USA). He has toured internationally to Europe, Australia, New Zeland, Asia, North Africa, North America and South America.
His Choreography has been seen in Portland Ballet’s Boy Meets Girl, the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s Peter and the Wolf (Discovery Series), and his Alice was seen in the fall 2015, in collaboration with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and MECA.
Roberto joined the faculty at Bates College (Lewiston-ME) in the fall 2016.
